11-year-old girl finds parents slain in Garland County home HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - An 11-year-old girl found her mother and stepfather slain in the family's mobile home in Garland County, authorities said. The girl, Tiffany Sharp, made the discovery Wednesday morning and called authorities, who said they don't know why the killings occurred. "She went to the bedroom to find out why her mommy hadn't woke her up and she found them and called 911," said Leta Love, Tiffany's aunt. The girl saw that she'd overslept for school went to see her mother's room, officials said. Norma Jean "Jeannie" Mayberry, 48, and her husband, Troy Mayberry, 66, died from gunshot wounds, sheriff's spokesman Lt. Rodney Neighbors said. Autopsy results were pending. Neighbors said several guns were in the bedroom, but it wasn't known if any of the weapons were used in the killings. "We're still not able to determine exactly what took place, but maybe after the autopsies are completed, we'll have a better idea of what we have," Neighbors said. Love, who is Norma Mayberry's sister, said Tiffany is a sensitive girl who was close to her mother. "I can't imagine what is going through that little girl's mind right now," Love said. Greg Sharp, Norma Mayberry's ex-husband and Tiffany's father, drove in from Bloomsburg, Texas, outside Texarkana, to pick up his daughter Wednesday afternoon, sheriff's Deputy Judy Daniell said. "The little girl was very composed," Neighbors said. "She did a good job of telling us what she did the night before and she was very composed about it, handled herself well under the circumstances." Norma Mayberry's son, Paul Brandon Lane, 28, was also at the residence and was reportedly asleep when the shooting occurred, Neighbors said. Both Lane and Sharp were brought to the sheriff's department for interviews "to help us try to piece together what happened." Neighbors said investigators are looking at the deaths as a double homicide "unless we get information back from the medical examiner that proves otherwise." Neighbors said the victims were last seen alive around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday but the time of the shootings had yet to be pinpointed. "We're hoping the medical examiner can help us with the time frame," he said. There was no indication of forced entry, and nothing appeared to have been stolen from the trailer, he said. The couple had been married about three years, family members said. Relatives said there were rumors that someone had threatened the couple but Love and her husband said that seemed far-fetched at the time. She said her sister was disabled and "couldn't have put up much of a fight." Love said she could not imagine a motive for the slayings. Mark Love said Troy Mayberry was "really polite" and everyone in the family had liked him. "As far as I know, they both got along great," he said. Leta Love said, "I just can't imagine anyone wanting to do this to my sister. "I'm just shocked and I'll probably be shocked until the day I die." ©2005 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
